This page hopefully lists all you would need to know about being a member of the PVAO. If after reading it you still have questions, please feel free to e-mail any of our officers with your questions. Their address are linked above.
As of September 1, 2014, there are no dues required to join the PVAO! Come to a meeting and say you want to join us and you're in!
1) The main reason for joining any club is to share knowledge with those who have similar interests. In this department you will find a wealth of information from members who have been involved in astronomy for a very long time. This group has knowledge not only about the night sky, but the equipment and astrophotography. In addition we have knowledge of natural history, engineering, machining and medicine.
2) New members can ask for a commercially produced beginning astronomy handbook which includes star charts, but we'll have to charge you our cost for it. We have a small number available.
3) Members also become affiliate members of the Astronomical League - a nationwide group of amateur astronomers. You will receive their quarterly journal - The Reflector - for a small charge
4) Our group has 2 "club" scopes we loan to members. We have a 16" Dobsonian used for outreach events. Members own lots of scopes we love to share!
5) Yearly membership card!
6) Perhaps most importantly you get to be a new ambassador for the greatest hobby there is!
